.Lenné Estate was founded in 2000 by Steve and Karen Lutz. Steve was the winemaker and operator until he sold the vineyard to long-time Lenné club member Eugene Labunsky in 2022. Our new owner created an amazing makeover of the tasting room, which reopened in April 2025. Eugene and our new winemaker Jared Etzel plan to carry on the boutique, hand-crafted tradition of Lenné Estate for decades to come.
Jared Etzel grew up just around the way from Lenné Estate, on the Beaux Frères Vineyard, founded by his father Michael G. Etzel in 1985. His childhood on the vineyard imparted a strong sense of the importance of the land and the commitment to nature that is essential for premium winemaking.
Following his internship at Artadi in Rioja, Spain, Jared earned his degree in Viticulture & Enology at Oregon State University, then moved to Sonoma where he worked at Fisher Vineyards, and at Kapcsàndy in Napa.
In 2015, Jared returned to Oregon where he established Domaine Roy & fils winery in the Dundee Hills with his partner Marc-Andre Roy. Jared’s winemaking inspiration comes from the many organic and biodynamic estate vineyards making soulful wines specific to their site and vintage.
Jared has served as the winemaker for a number of Oregon’s top pinot noir producers, including Lenné Estate, Rodeo Hills, Jachter Family Estates, Raindance, Latesky, and Tekstura.
Eugene Labunsky is the new owner of Lenné Estate. A long time member of our wine club, Eugene was delighted when Lenne’s founder Steve Lutz offered him the opportunity to purchase the vineyard in 2022.
Eugene was born in Kiev, Ukraine, the fifth of eleven children. His family moved to Italy when he was two years old, then emigrated to the Portland area a couple of years later. Eugene grew up in Woodburn, Oregon, and he now heads up a variety of companies in the Pacific Northwest.
Eugene has long held a passion for Oregon pinot noir, and he married into one of one of Oregon’s premiere wine making families when his younger sister Inna wed Nathan Etzel. He is a regular presence in our tasting room, often accompanied by his fiancé Marissa and their two dogs. At Lenné, Eugene is always happy to chat with guests and share his favorite Lenné wine, the Kill Hill.
Eric Bruce joined the team at Lenné in October 2017 as the Tasting Room and Hospitality Manager. After the winery sale in 2022, Eric was recruited by Eugene and Jared to stay on and run the property as the General Manager.
Eric’s career in wine began with inspiration from his father Brad, who has been a wine educator and judge in San Diego for more than thirty years. After relocating to Oregon in 2011, Eric transitioned from his computer/Internet career into the wine industry. He began as a part time associate in a small tasting room in Dundee in 2013, and worked as a “cellar rat” during the 2015 harvest, getting his feet wet in wine production, while studying for the WSET II.
When he’s not holding down the fort at Lenné, Eric enjoys gardening, woodworking, cooking, spoiling his cats, collecting purple dress shirts, and savoring fine wine and food with good friends.
Matt joined Team Lenne in early 2025, just before we reopened after a two-year renovation. Matt serves as our Events Manager, but on a small team he wears a lot of hats (literally) and manages our social media, as well as booking musical artists, scheduling weddings and private dinners, and hosting guests every day in our tasting room.
Born in Las Vegas, Matt moved to Southern California as a teen where he attended high school and college. He began pouring wine in the Temecula Valley AVA in 2012, then moved to Oregon in 2023 where he worked as a manager at Stoller Family Estate in Dayton, Oregon.
When not in the tasting room Matt can be found traveling, hiking, kayaking, shooting photography, singing karaoke and spending time with his wife and young son Brix. Matt loves everyone, so be sure to say hi to him when you stop by Lenné!
Sydney joined Lenné in early 2026 and manages reservations, hosts guests, organizes larger parties, helps with admin tasks, assists with events, and much more. Prior to joining Lenne, Sydney worked at Sokol Blosser winery for 2.5 years, and also has career experience in library sciences and bookselling. Sydney is also our mocktail mixologist, tasting room decorator, and lead crafting expert. She has hosted workshops on flower arranging, pie and pumpkin decorating, wine charm construction, holiday wreath building, and more.
Sydney enjoys gardening, cooking, thrifting, playing DnD with her friends, crafting, spending time with her cats, Sage and Alister, watching movies with her boyfriend, and traveling. She has been to every continent except Australia.
Sydney grew up in Santa Monica, but fell in love with PNW while attending furniture design school in Portland. Her interest in wine came through her love of food. She delights in making wine approachable and exciting for our guests.
